“The best medicine to chase away the heart’s dark isolation is to make direct contact with life’s sufferings, to touch and share the anxieties and uncertainties of others. Loneliness comes from locking yourself in a false shell. You think of yourself as a separate, self-contained entity not in relation to others. Buddhists call this “attachment to self.” In reality, we are empty of a separate self. But we needn’t take the Buddhists’ word for it. Looking deeply, we can see that a person is not a separate self.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh, mystic, scholar, poet and activist. words of wisdom while studying for World Religions final.

maybe it isn’t about just me. maybe it isn’t all about finding a center in myself, making peace with myself. maybe it’s acknowledging that everyone has chaos in their lives, that in one way or the other, we are the same. once you realize that, everything seems different, doesn’t it? it makes god seem heartless and the world a miserable place. but it also makes life/this world just a little warmer, just a little more bearable, that even though god feels like it sometimes, we humans are not heartless. we are not cold. we all have chaos in us, sadness and misery, and there’s beauty in that. and room for hope. we are the same in our chaos, not one of us more hurt than others.
from when I stopped believing in a compassionate, all-present god for some time and instead in human heart.
